Green-oriented planning for shrinking cities through an integrated ecosystem services/disservices analysis: A Case of Minoo Island, Iran

The number of shrinking cities is rapidly growing and posing new planning design challenges worldwide. In this regard, understanding urban decline from an integrated ecosystem services/disservices perspective limited in the literature considered as a critical basis for revitalization programs. Minoo Island one emerging cases Middle East has considerable characteristics terms both positive negative aspects population decline. This paper aims to investigate various factors resulting shrinkage consequence Iran-Iraq war 1980s. research method study based on qualitative assessment by using participant observation semi-structured interviews. An services/disservice analysis was applied ecological functions assets. results show that despite remarkable potentials functionalities Island, it suffers detrimental effects disservices leading over past decades. Finally, proposed some green-oriented strategies such protection, river restoration green infrastructures revitalizing Island.
